Dr. Kaeri Schaefer moves through her roles as healing space holder, body interpreter, and medical guide with an MD from the University of Wisconsin, a board certification in Family Medicine, training in functional medicine
from the Institute of Functional Medicine, and craniosacral and osteopathic training from Carol Gray and Christopher Frothingham, DO. She continues to work on better understanding the effects of colonialism on our medical system, with guidance by the courses of Dra. Rocio Rosales Meza.Kaeri's work aims to truly integrate western/allopathic medicine, herbalism, functional medicine, craniosacral therapy, osteopathic manipulation and somatic processing. Most of what she uses in her practice of the art of medicine she didn’t learn in medical school or residency. Her most important teachers have been her kids and the many amazing humxns who have trusted her to support them in their healing journeys.
Kaeri is committed to helping bring awareness to the ways the western medical system is built on fear. Her goal is to help us recognize that fear and the environments built from it do not support our healing. She fully believes that we can change these systems when we as individuals (both providers and those receiving care) bring trust and our bodied experience into these settings. She focuses her work on helping individuals and small groups find ways to connect into and understand their body communications ("symptoms") and move towards trust in their body's wisdom. She loves to support other providers in making small shifts in the environment and language that will help change their relationships to the system and thus, over time, change the system itself.

Andie introduces Spiral Tending Podcast and invites healers into the Spiral Collective, a community to move away from performance pressure, “bullshit professionalism,” and small business isolation while discussing themes like money, restructuring in late-stage capitalism, and mutual support. Andie interviews Heather Bax of Small Business Rodeo, who helps small business owners “wrangle their work and find their flow” through strategy and systems so they can reduce overwhelm and run confident experiments. Heather shares a circuitous path—dog training, web development, and opening a North Carolina gift shop in 2019 that survived COVID through an online store, gift certificate sales, and hiring staff—amid her father’s sudden death and ongoing stress. She reflects on grief as clarifying and creativity-opening, the myth of “arriving” after burnout, and critiques one-size-fits-all online business coaching. Her key advice is that clarity is a prerequisite for discernment. Heather directs listeners to smallbusiness.rodeo and a free tech stack guide.
Heather is a gentle and human-centered small business advisor and strategist at Small Business Rodeo (https://smallbusiness.rodeo).
